Disqualify UA:PBC (Ukraine) from the Eurovision Song Contest 2019
The Issue
Over the weekend the Ukrainian national selection Vidbir took place, with the eventual winner turning out to be Maruv. The show itself was showered with political controversy with a number of acts being asked uncomfortable questions about their political stances throughout the show. Sad news then came in from the broadcaster today stating that Maruv will not be their representative for the contest.
Maruv was subject to an unfair contract, essentially jeopardising her career in exchange for the place on the Eurovision stage. Is this fair? Should an artist be made to cancel shows for a contest deemed non political? As a avid watcher of the contest I call upon the EBU and it’s members to either A) Ensure that the rightful winner of Vidbir that being Maruv is the official representative for Ukraine. B) UA:PBC is sanctioned immediately and fined or C) To ban UA:PBC from taking part in this edition of the contest.
