Don't Let Eurobodalla Council give dog owners the brushoff

Hello again fellow dog lovers By now, those who have written to the Eurobodalla Shire Council (ESC) Mayor and Councillors may already be getting the brush off (AGAIN) about changing the dogs on beaches rules to school holidays only. A couple of Councillors replied with "thanks". The Mayor has delegated to a staff member. One Councillor even claims that they HAVE considered this matter and received an 'expert' opinion but no communication has ever been received. This council was elected on the promise of listening to and acting on community concerns but it seems it is all just lip service! Not good enough! This council say they want genuine community engagement but they are ignoring this request. This council also says they want to help improve the health of residents and look after those with disabilities but they prevent us from walking our dogs on beaches in summer. We don't just want a letter saying "no" but written with insincere empathy. We want Council to actually look adjusting to changing community views about people and their pets. Other laws are changing to be more pet friendly. Look at the new strata management rules where you now cannot unreasonably prevent someone from having a pet in a unit. Look at retirement homes where you can now take pets with you. There are now many outdoor bars and cafes that encourage people to bring their furry family member. Most councils allow dogs on beaches ON-lead on almost any beach at any time of the year except for near swimming and bbq areas and then ALSO provide numerous off -leash beaches, parks and ovals. The only areas where dogs are prohibited are near wildlife reserves and national parks. ESC is still operating with a very outdated mindset and not giving residents a fair go. PLEASE - email the Mayor and Councillors (and ask your friends and family to help by writing too). Ask the Council to at least trial more flexible arrangements - it will take just 5 minutes.
