As we now have 1000 signatures, I would like to sincerely thank each one of you for your support.

For those who may not be aware, in July last year I submitted a renewed proposal for the establishment of a National Corrections Service Medal to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, as well as to each State and Territory Minister responsible for Corrective Services.

As a result of this I can advise that the proposal for the establishment of a National Corrections Service Medal has been referred to the relevant State and Territory Ministers for their consideration at the upcoming 2026 Corrective Services Ministers’ Conference.

Once advised of the outcome I will let you all know.

The intention behind the establishment of a National Corrections Service Medal is for it to be awarded to all Australian Custodial Corrections Officers who have provided 15 years of ethical and diligent service to an Australian Correctional Service.

The medal will symbolise the respect, appreciation, and gratitude of the Australian people for the tireless work undertaken by these officers to support community safety and offender rehabilitation.

Achieving a meaningful outcome requires a coordinated and collaborative approach—one that involves consultation with Ministers, Commissioners, Union bodies, relevant Corrective Services agencies, professional organisations, current serving and retired officers, their families and the broader community.

This journey has taught me that this is a mountain no one should have to climb alone—and together, we don’t have to.

Thank you all again for your support.
