Im here in the confines of the house, looking at her picture and wondering what she would be doing tonight. I was talking to her a few days ago, while driving to pick up my Grandson, and asked her what flavor Doritos she wanted from the store. That was something I asked of her when I would stop by the store... her answer, "Cool Ranch please... and a Pepsi...". That Blue bag is an eyesore now and a bag of chips I will never eat again. they dont taste the same! I guess they never will...
But the what I do have a taste for is the beginning of the interviews that are scheduled for February. I did one with the FOX news (of all stations) affiliate in SC, on Friday. Beautiful Kei'Yona Jordan, their weekend host, emailed me to speak about the need to get more light to the cause. she was poised and professional, opening with easy questions about Zakiyah in her youth and who she was as a Mom. She continued with harder, more probing questions when she asked about Jerry Lane Pillows-Williams...her murderer! Well we didnt know him...least of all didnt know the power of that malignant misanthrope (yeah...look that one up. Thats an SAT word that I pulled out) had. He came into our lives as quickly as she passed away, but sadly will be a name I will never forget!
Kei'Yona finished with the hardest question of all the things she asked... "so how are you now?...". I still can't answer that question, but I was very glad she asked me that and thankful that I was able to get another chance to actually 'feel' again. I have been numb for months now... but appreciated that, for the first time, since her death I was able to exhale truth that I probably will never have an answer to question!
I have a few more interviews scheduled for February, as I mentioned and will plan to visit Columbia for a meet and greet with lobbyists and nonprofits in DV solutions for South Carolina. Say a specific prayer to meet with (former) Senator Katrina Shealy and current Senators Tameika Isaac-Devine and Tom Scott...heavy hitters in DV work!
Im feeling more and more motivated as I step forward in this work and will make it my business to be present when her slained life becomes a living legacy, when they pass #KIyahsLaw...the Domestic Violent Offender Registry!
Stay tuned...
