People of J&K are felling happy that the new appointment for chief of army is General Upendra Dwivedi of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment. The royal family of J&K has also expressed there happiness that roots of JAK rifles is state forces of erstwhile maharaja of J&K

Similarly  Maj Gen Bakshi has mentioned that  JAK Rifiles was led by the legendary Gen Zorawar singh who marched on Tibet in 1841 and liberated Kailash and Mansarovar from China. He routed a Chinese force on the banks of the Sacred Mansarovar lake and captured a Chinese flag that is still in the officers mess of 4 Jak Rif as a war trophy.

Inspite of rich military heritage of karnataka, mysuru regiment which led to liberation of haifa in Israel was merged with other regiment. We need to preserve and nurture our military heritage hence we need establishment of Karnataka regiment
