Email sent to AD, Superintendent, and Norwin HS Principal

I trust this email finds you well. My name is Kristie Shaffer, and I am a concerned member of the community and a steadfast supporter of the extracurricular activities provided by our esteemed school district. I am reaching out to seek clarification on the criteria and decision-making process employed by the district when approving and supporting sports teams.
While I commend the recent addition of the Girls Wrestling Team to our school's sports roster, I am eager to gain a better understanding of how the district selects and approves sports teams. Specifically, I am puzzled by the fact that neighboring districts support Rifle and Trap teams as official sports, yet our district has not extended the same recognition and support to these programs.
It has come to my attention that Rifle and Trap teams are currently recognized as clubs rather than official sports throughout the district. This distinction has left supporters wondering why these programs have not been granted the same level of recognition as other sports.
In addition to seeking official sports status for Rifle and Trap teams, I wish to advocate for equitable recognition and opportunities for students who participate in these programs. Students who shoot on such teams demonstrate dedication, discipline, and skill, much like their counterparts in traditional physical sports. Therefore, it is only fair that these students receive acknowledgment for their achievements and are afforded the same scholarship opportunities as students engaged in other sports.
I am particularly interested in learning about the factors influencing the decision not to support a Rifle and Trap team as an official sport, especially when these programs are embraced by neighboring districts. Understanding the rationale behind these decisions will not only address concerns among current supporters but will also contribute to a more transparent and informed community.
Furthermore, I would like to inquire about the steps or initiatives that could be taken to garner the support of the district in transforming Rifle and Trap teams from clubs into official sports at Norwin. If there are specific criteria or processes involved, I am keen to explore them in order to ensure equitable recognition and support for these programs and the dedicated students who contribute to their success.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further at your earliest convenience. A meeting would provide valuable insights into the decision-making process, and I am open to exploring potential avenues to ensure the success and recognition of all extracurricular activities within our school.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and to working collaboratively to ensure the success and recognition of all sports and extracurricular activities within our school.
