An announcement has been published on the Essex Highways Boxted bridge webpage today that a detailed inspection will be carried out next week to check the capacity of the bridge to carry highway loading. 

Why was this test not carried out at the same time as the pedestrian load test in September 2025? More time has been wasted and more tax payers money.

The Mann Williams Dynamic Load Test, agreed by Highways and then cancelled at the last minute last year, would have informed on both.

The total spent by Essex Highways from 2016 to December 2025 on plans for Boxted bridge is £756,640.57. Enough money to have repaired the bridge by now. An FOI has confirmed all costs are to be borne by ECC (Essex tax payers) and none by their contractor Ringway Jacobs.
