Irreversible loss of iconic view over millpond if bridge is replaced!


If Highways planning application is approved to demolish the bridge and build a wider replacement the parapet height and width will be increased to that in the mock up in this photo. The longer, wider, flatter bridge - designed for HGVs -will be too high and wide to see over the edge let alone lean on it and look down at the fishes. The beautiful view, painted by Munnings and Nash, will be irreversibly lost. Under the CROW Act ECC has a statutory duty to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the AONB! All three approach roads are single lane unclassified lanes with passing places. The bridge can be repaired and strengthened.
