Escalate diplomatic actions against Islamic Republic In Iran over executions
The issue
I write to you with a heavy heart as the alarming escalation of political executions in Iran has reached a critical point, threatening the lives of innocent protesters, human rights defenders, and political prisoners. This is not merely a distant issue for me, but a deeply personal one that demands urgent action from democratic governments, including New Zealand.
Iran's brutal crackdown on dissent has resulted in an increasing number of executions targeting those who dare to oppose the regime. These egregious actions stand in stark violation of human rights and international law, casting a dark shadow over the rights and freedoms we value so deeply. The growing list of political prisoners facing execution—many of whom are unjustly detained—highlights the immediate need for the global community to intervene decisively.
Despite repeated international condemnations, the Iranian authorities have shown no signs of halting their oppressive measures. Now, more than ever, it's imperative for nations like New Zealand—champions of democracy and human rights—to take a stand. Mere verbal condemnations are insufficient; we must push for impactful diplomatic actions that can pressure Iran into halting these executions and uphold the sanctity of life and human dignity.
We, therefore, call upon the New Zealand House of Representatives to urgently press the government to elevate diplomatic efforts. This should include summoning the Iranian Ambassador to express our grave concerns officially, considering the expulsion of Iranian diplomatic representatives from New Zealand, and strongly advocating for an independent international fact-finding mission. Such a mission should be tasked with inspecting the conditions faced by political prisoners in Iran and providing an unbiased report to the global community.
Our collective silence in the face of such human rights abuses is not an option. Every signature on this petition represents a call for justice, a cry for those whose voices have been silenced, and an appeal to uphold the values we hold dear as a nation.
Please join me in urging our government to take decisive actions against these injustices. Let us be the voice for those who cannot speak and stand firmly for human rights. Sign this petition to compel the New Zealand government to act swiftly and save lives in Iran.
