I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THE FACILITY THAT HAS MADE IT POSSIBLE TO GIVE THESE TWO PRECIOUS ORPHANED BEAR CUBS A SECOND CHANCE! :)
The CEI is a family founded, charitable organization devoted to breeding endangered species for reintroduction, wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release, educating the public, monitoring habitat and species, and developing non intrusive wildlife survey methods. The CEI was founded (1971) by Miles and Beryl Smeeton and is now run by their daughter, Clio Smeeton.
This rehabilitation facility does not receive government funding. They rely on donations and income from their kennel: Happytails Pet Retreat, as well as their own personal funds. I invite you to check out their website to see all the amazing work they do for so many of our orphaned and injured Wildlife. I invite you to consider a donation, no matter how small. I also invite you to attend their 3rd Symposium that they are hosting: Wilderness, Wildlife and Human Interaction - Changing the Paradigm.
***Please be informed that Charlie and Maskwa are NOT completely SAFE.***
Alberta Environment and Parks have unofficially stated that they plan on having cubs released on April 15, 2019. This is STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SPRING BEAR HUNT. There could also still be April snow storms. If so - please be prepared to help put more pressure on the Alberta Government. I will be sure to update you.
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to sign the petition, share the petition, and comment on the petition. Let us continue to fight for these vulnerable animals. Let us continue to educate ourselves and others.
Thank you for making a positive difference for Charlie and Maskwa, and for the other black bear cubs who will surely follow.
