Do not reappoint Tim Thomas to Community Board 9.

The Issue

Dear Borough President Eric Adams, I’m signing this petition to request that Tim Thomas, Community Board 9 member, not be reappointed to CB9 after his term expires on March 31, 2015.  His behavior as a community board member in relation to his blog “The Q at Parkside” is racist, unprofessional, divisive and inflammatory to a large segment of the population, including the Community Board itself.

In an atmosphere in our city and country charged with hate crimes, from the slaying of a black man while attacking a Jewish group, to the killings of two officers in New York, to the Chapel Hill Murders to the racist antics of the sorority in Oklahoma, making sure that our own appointed representatives not in engage in racial divides and unprofessional behavior is paramount.  Tim has described Black homeowners, tenants, community leaders, elected officials,  residents, communities,  and CB 9 members in derogatory, insulting and abusive manners as the excerpts from his public blog will attest to.

  •  Described Members of CB9 board as “Fools” - Nov. 5, 2014 and as “Embarrassment[s]” - Jan 1, 2015, “Crazy”- Feb 4, 2015 and Chairperson Dwayne Nicholson, “there's a gap in his knowledge he seems to need coaching in leadership” - Nov 5, 2014
  •  Black residential community of homeowners and tenants that live on the Boarder of Empire Blvd as “powerlessness and fearful” August 30, 2014 “marginalized and fearful and angry”, “rebels without a cause, looking for somewhere to place their anger”, “nutjobs” - Sept 27, 2014
  • Black Women and Men leaders and heads of organizations “…are likely Assholic's… most Assholic's die frightened and alone.... That lady….”Assholic, [Name of Black leader in community is an] Assholic …a “Fraud” “Fear soaked hate”-  Feb 5, 2015
  • Wished harm to residents  “Maybe [Black female community leader] will break her jaw while working on her garden. - Feb 5, 2015
  • Created anti-black slogans, Not In My Black Yard. -  Sept 18, 2014
  • Made racial joking references, “It (discussion) was (past tense? discussion) a (why not an? have we already decided the next word will start with a consonant?) dark (is that racial? how dark?) and (conjunction junction, what's your function?) stormy (adjective choice - too provocative) night (I told you they'd do it under cover of night!).  - Feb  24, 2014
  • And has described local Black Councilman Eugene Mathiew as “fitting the cheap suit.” - Dec 5, 2014

WE are sure that you do not support these types of abusive and racist rhetoric from a representative of the Community, and we are confident that you will not re-appoint Tim Thomas back onto the CB9 Board.
