El Nuevo Día reports that members of the Puerto Rico Senate’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee traveled to Washington, D.C., meeting with congressional offices and Pentagon officials to advocate for extending TRICARE Prime to Puerto Rico. According to the report, approximately 13,800 military retirees in Puerto Rico could benefit from this change. TRICARE Prime could provide military families with coordinated primary and specialty care, lower out-of-pocket costs, and no annual deductible. (El Nuevo Día) For decades, Puerto Rico has been treated as an overseas location under the military healthcare system. Retirees and their dependents have been forced to navigate limited provider participation, confusing reimbursement procedures, delayed claims, and healthcare benefits that too often work better on paper than in real life.
