STUDENT ACTION FOR REFUGEES(STAR) AT NOTTINGHAM ARE CAMPAIGNING FOR EQUAL ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS IN THE UK
Refugees fleeing from persecution in their homeland may have to wait several years before they receive a decision on their asylum application. During this time, those who have the qualifications to go to university have no prospect of developing their potential through higher education as they do not have access to any form of student loan and are barred from working so cannot earn money to even fund their own living costs.
We want to help provide people with a fair opportunity to build themselves a future.
We want the University of Nottingham to provide funding for refugees and asylum seekers so they are able to gain admissions to university.
We need everyone to play a role in helping people who’ve fled situations that we cannot even imagine, we can play our part and help them to build a promising future and life.
Nationally, Student Action for Refugees (STAR) have been campaigning for equal access to university for all people seeking refugee protection in the UK. The campaign has been a huge success with over 30 universities including York, Manchester and Liverpool now providing financial support to refugees. WE WANT TO ACHIEVE THE SAME!
STAR NOTTINGHAM ARE CALLING ON UON TO:
a) Providing more financial support in the form of accommodation and tuition fee bursaries and scholarships to at least ten refugees, asylum seekers, those with DLR or humanitarian protection,
b) Allowing those with DLR and those seeking asylum to apply for university grants, scholarships and bursaries,
c) Waiving tuition fees altogether for five refugees, asylum seekers or those with DLR or humanitarian protection
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
Please sign to support and help make Equal Access a success at the University of Nottingham!
