BOLSONARO & CO. ARE ENDANGERING INDIA’S FARMERS’ FUTURE!
JOIN US IN ASKING THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT TO WITHDRAW ITS INVITATION TO THE BRAZILIAN PRESIDENT AS CHIEF GUEST OF OUR REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS IN 2020!
The big push for colonisation and destruction of the Amazon comes from the Industrial Farming lobby in Brazil, who adopt non-environmental, industrial methods of farming; and these are further dependent on markets in other countries for the produce. To this effect, Brazil is pursuing aggressive designs against farmers in other countries, to ensure access to their own farm produce!
The Brazilian government, under the leadership of Mr Bolsonaro, is directly threatening the livelihoods of Indian farmers. Brazil has dragged India to the World TradeOrganization’s (WTO) dispute settlement body and it has challenged the minimum price for sugarcane set by the Indian government called FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price), which prevents sugarcane farmers from being exploited and helps them to receive a fair price from sugar mills.
WTO is an unfair neo-colonial Trade Deal, India should exit it!
India and China have challenged the unfair regime of subsidies in the WTO and released a paper that shows that 90 per cent of total subsidy entitlements, amounting to a whopping $160 billion annually have been
cornered by the developed world. Brazil has been brazenly trying to interfere in Indian internal policy of price for farm produce, and trying to dictate what we must pay our farmers, using the WTO.
We therefore do not accept the WTO and believe that agriculture must be taken out of the WTO. After India’s recent responsible decision with regard to RCEP, it is not too much to hope that there will be a serious rethink of the WTO as well.
Brazil's policies will lead to more corn seeds, soybean oil being exported from Brazil to india using GM seeds, etc.,
Hence, this twitter campaign focuses on #NoBolsonaro #BoycottWTO #QuitWTO
