Relocation of the proposed Hopeall Abattoir away from our backyard
The Issue
Residents & businesses strongly oppose the proposed current location for an abattoir in Hopeall, Trinity Bay, NL by Kettle Farms. We desire to protect our sensitive ecosystems, neighbors, and businesses in the area that will be negatively impacted by a slaughterhouse next door. The marshy land has great potential for waste pollution (leeching) to our local nearby streams, & ponds. The other great concern is for the air quality, odor, flies and noise pollution to the neighboring communities of Hopeall and Greens Hr.
We are concerned that this proposal location will negatively impact our right to peaceful enjoyment within our communities and the businesses (including tourism that has experienced an increase in supporting job growth in the area).
We are concerned about the preservation of our pony sanctuary that would be right next to the abattoir. It is a home for endangered ponies, and we want to ensure their success and safety! Similarly, Crouts way- The oldest documented trail in North America is adjacent to said proposed slaughterhouse. It has 1000's of visitors, all year around. The Hopeall Fall and trail is now at risk.
We support any new business initiatives, we do not support a slaughterhouse/regional abattoir and, a potentially, a regionally composting center in our backyard when it will negatively impact everyone!
We demand the relocation of the abattoir to the 100's square miles of unused crown lands and far enough away not to negatively its neighbors.
Having an abattoir in our backyard will have a serious affliction on our area and we refuse to allow further devastation on the Trinity Shore. Please sign our petition to move the Hopeall abattoir to a safe location and preserve our communities, the pony sanctuary, and the environment for today and the future of our kids.
