Dear river defenders,

First of all, THANK YOU so much for signing and sharing this petition - we can hardly believe that we've got over 4,000 signatures in less than a month! It's so heartening to discover so many other people care about having a clean, healthy river safe for all, and are willing to stand up for it.

This evening (Monday 5th October at 6.30pm), Oxford City Council will vote on whether to apply for bathing water status for a stretch of the Thames/Isis through Oxford.

Do you have 2 minutes today to write to your local councillor and ask them to support the motion for bathing water status? You can find the details of your local councillor here: https://mycouncil.oxford.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.aspx?bcr=1

Thank you - this could make all the difference between the motion passing and it falling by the wayside.

If it passes, there will still be an application process to go through, but Oxford could be the first place in the country to get bathing water status on its river! This will make a huge difference to our water quality and safety, and put pressure on Thames Water to finally upgrade their sewage works.

If you'd like regular updates on the campaign to #endsewagepollution, you can join the facebook group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/endsewagepollutionthames/ or send an email to endsewagepollution.thames@gmail.com. We really need your help - as a river monitor, leafletter, social media warrior, protest/floatester, groups co-ordinator - there are loads of ways to get involved.

Thank you so much again for your support,

Claire and the #endsewagepollution Thames group
