Lots of focus this week has been on the GMC however there is not equal publicity about the NMC
The Nursing and Midwifery Council issues the most interim condition of practice orders, interim suspension orders, substantive condition of practice orders and substantive suspension orders which equates 65.45% their total sanctions. This evaluation describes them as duration sanctions.
The Health and Caring Professions Council has the highest deregistered rate at 21.41%.
Deregistered is defined by sanctions of "strike off" "voluntary removal from register" and
"removal from register". With each of these sanctions the registrant is permanently removed from the regulator's register. The General Medical Council has the lowest deregistered rate at 4.33%.
The public needs to be confident that outcomes by regulations are fair, proportionate and appropriate and not dependant on a) legal representation or b) which regulator is investigating
