NMC Nurses and Midwives condemmed
Jan 20, 2021

This article explores the plans the NMC have to introduce better guidance to employers on local resolution and how to decide which nurses and midwives must then be referred.

According to the 2019 - 2020 Annual Fitness To Practice report 58% of cases required no further action.

This is a great step in trying to ensure the right referrals get to the NMC but does question will it be targeting employers who already have good expertise on handling investigation. What consequences will there be for those employers that still fail to undertake local investigations and use the NMC as a threat or an easy way of avoiding spotlight on their failings?

Lots to explore and discuss to resolve the current culture that is contributing to this issue.

For those 58% who were referred it would be interesting to know how many are no longer in employment or who left employment due to the stress of being referred.
