NMC Nurses and Midwives condemmed

40,000 nurse vacancies across the country 20% more nurses leaving the profession than joining 9, 593 NMC registrants have been sanctioned, impaired or struck off since 2008. In 2014-2015 the NMC expenditure was £76million with £57million spent on FTP cases. 30 FTP cases a day held currently with each one costing £13,000 Suicide risk is high in those undergoing FTP procedures but unlike the GMC the NMC do not have a record of these figures. Dr Sarah Woollaston posed this question to Jackie Smith, Chief of the NMC, in January 2015 at the HSC and she was unable to answer... Jackie Smith gets £20,000 pay rise bringing her annual salary to £192,850 for 2016-2017. In total, the NMC’s executive team was paid £1.2m in 2016-2017. The only place a nurse or midwife can appeal against FTP outcomes is the High Court - overwhelming and potentially financially crippling Only 3 nurses self representing have successfully overturned FTP sanctions in the High Court and 8 have done so with barristers High Court Judges have ruled on 2 occasions now that costs will not be awarded to the NMC when the registrant has lost appeal as no benefit has been seen to add to the financial burden the registrant has already suffered. October 2017 - the Independant Midwives take the NMC to the High Court...
