The Issue

In Singapore, many horses work tirelessly in the service of humans, whether it's through providing leisure rides, engaging in equestrian sports, or assisting in therapeutic settings. They contribute significantly to our society, offering joy and healing to many. However, their welfare often falls short of the standards they deserve. As someone who deeply cares for these magnificent creatures, it is distressing to see them not receiving the proper care and facilities they so rightly need.

Currently, the readily available paddocks for horses in Singapore are limited in size and accessibility, which poses a significant discomfort for the animals. Horses require spacious and accessible paddocks to roam freely, socialize with other horses, and maintain their physical and mental health. Standard guidelines for equine welfare emphasize that horses must be able to engage in natural behaviors, including grazing, playing, and interacting within a herd.

Research suggests that horses confined to small and inadequate spaces can suffer from a range of physical and psychological issues, including stress, anxiety, and even depression. According to the World Horse Welfare Organization, adequate paddock space is vital for a horse's well-being, advocating for a minimum of one acre per horse for them to thrive.

To ensure the proper welfare of horses in Singapore, I propose the development of larger, more accessible paddocks specifically designed to cater to the needs of these animals. This would involve collaboration between local authorities, equestrian centers, and animal welfare organizations to secure appropriate land, funding, and management plans that prioritize equine health and happiness.

Through community support and awareness, we can drive this change and provide these hard-working animals with the quality of life they deserve. Let's honor the immense contribution horses make to our lives by ensuring they receive the care, space, and attention necessary for their well-being.

Please join me in advocating for proper horse welfare standards in Singapore by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference for these incredible animals who give us so much joy and service. Sign now to support the fitting recognition and care of our equine partners.
