We, the undersigned licensed taxi drivers, demand urgent action from the NTA regarding Uber’s fixed-fare system and the growing financial pressure on taxi drivers across Ireland.

Ireland has regulated taxi meters, yet Uber continues to offer fixed fares. How is this permitted under the existing taxi fare regulations? Why are drivers not being given clear answers?

Fuel prices and the cost of living have increased, but taxi drivers cannot simply increase their fares to survive. Instead, fixed-fare platforms are placing even more financial pressure on drivers.

We are working long hours to support our families. Our livelihoods are being destroyed, and many drivers are struggling to survive.

OUR DEMANDS

Full transparency: Explain the legal basis for Uber’s fixed fares and how they comply with Irish taxi regulations.
Fairness: Ensure equal enforcement of fare rules across all taxi operators and platforms.
Fair taxi fares: Review regulated taxi fares in light of rising fuel, insurance and living costs.
Driver consultation: Meet with taxi drivers and elected TDs to address these urgent concerns.
Protection of livelihoods: Take immediate action to ensure licensed taxi drivers can earn a fair and sustainable income.
We are calling on the NTA and the Minister for Transport to listen to Ireland’s taxi drivers.
