The Issue

I am writing this petition fueled by disappointment and a strong sense of justice after witnessing the City of Cape Coral's refusal to grant wage increases to current contract employees. This has been a profoundly personal issue for many of us who have dedicated years of service to this city, only to be neglected in favor of new hires receiving better pay.

For those of us who are existing contract employees, the wage disparity in Cape Coral is not just unfair—it is unsustainable and demoralizing. Current employees have contributed significantly to the success and operations of the city across various departments. Yet, despite our continued loyalty and hard work, we are being ignored in favor of new hires who are being brought in at higher pay rates.

The lack of equitable pay is not only a violation of fairness but also undermines the morale and commitment of dedicated employees. This discrepancy between the wages of current and new hires can create a toxic work environment, fostering resentment and reducing overall productivity. It can also lead to higher turnover rates, resulting in increased costs and disruptions to services provided to the community.

We propose that the City of Cape Coral conduct a thorough review of their wage practices, focusing on creating a pay parity system that acknowledges and rewards the commitment of current contract employees. This review should lead to an adjustment in salaries that reflects both seniority and the cost of living increases, placing existing employees on par with new hires.

This adjustment is not only a rightful acknowledgment of our hard work but also a strategic move to ensure a stable, motivated, and effective workforce that continues to contribute positively to the community.

Join us in urging the City of Cape Coral to take immediate action for wage parity and fairness. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and to help rectify this inequity within our community's employment practices. Together, we can make a difference.
