Given the repeated threats over the past months to annex or otherwise attempt to take over Greenland, a territory whose rich Indigenous history and vibrant culture are intertwined with the Kingdom of Denmark, it is particularly disturbing to imagine Canadian companies, like Stampede Drilling and Desgagnés, carrying out activities on Greenland's soil in collaboration with the Trump Administration without the explicit approval of Greenland’s government.

The sovereignty of Greenland cannot be ignored, especially when these potential activities pose a direct threat to its protected zones and contravene its laws. As a Canadian, I take immense pride in our nation's reputation for upholding international law and respect for other nations. Therefore, it is troubling that any corporation operating under Canadian jurisdiction would contravene this by becoming complicit in actions that disregard the sovereignty and environmental protections of Greenland.

Consider the evidence: Greenland, covering more than 2 million square kilometers, is home to a fragile ecosystem, often heralded as one of the last frontiers for untouched nature. The actions of these corporations in such zones would not only hinder our planet's fight against climate change but could significantly impact local communities that have relied on and coexisted with these lands for centuries.

This petition is not just a call for the government to act but a plea to preserve the high moral standing of Canadian corporate practices. We ask the Government of Canada to firmly establish a policy ensuring that Canadian entities operating abroad adhere strictly to both our laws and those of the nations they operate within.
