Enhance School Transportation and Infrastructure Safety in Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Joshua Tree
The Issue
To: The Town Councils of Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Joshua Tree, Morongo Unified School District, and Other Concerned Authorities
We, the undersigned, are concerned parents, guardians, and community members of Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Joshua Tree, who are deeply troubled by the current lack of adequate school transportation and safety measures for our children.
Currently, many of our children in these communities are required to walk long distances to reach their schools due to the limited availability of bus stops. This situation is exacerbated by the absence of proper safety infrastructure, such as street lighting and crosswalks, putting our children at risk every day.
Furthermore, there are over 100 registered sex offenders in these communities, many of whom live along the walking paths and routes that children are forced to take to get to school. This is an unacceptable risk to our children’s safety.
We respectfully demand the following actions to be taken immediately:
1. Increase the Number of School Bus Stops:Expand the current school bus routes to include additional stops in underserved areas across Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Joshua Tree. This will ensure that more children have access to safe transportation, reducing the need for them to walk long distances.
2. Implement Critical Safety Measures:
- Install adequate street lighting along common walking routes to schools.
- Implement crosswalks and other pedestrian safety features near schools and bus stops.
- Ensure proper maintenance and visibility of existing safety infrastructure.
3. Alleviate Traffic Congestion: We believe that increasing the number of bus stops and improving safety measures will not only protect our children but also help reduce the traffic congestion that occurs during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Our children’s safety should be a top priority. By signing this petition, we urge the town councils of Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Joshua Tree, along with the Morongo Unified School District, to take immediate action to address these critical issues. It is unacceptable for our children to be placed in harm’s way due to the lack of proper transportation and safety measures. We stand together in demanding that our voices be heard and that steps be taken to protect our children.
Please join us in signing this petition to show our collective support for the safety of our community’s children.
