Admonishment?___ a firm warning……….

In the world outside of youth sports the offensive’s against my child would have had stronger repercussion. Is youth hockey a highly physical sport? Yes of course, is that the problem. Absolutely not. The problem, for us and so many people, is the violence within your own organization. But who should be held accountable? Should they have repercussions besides a firm warning? Adults and children who continue these behaviors are not taking their firm warnings and making change because there are no real repercussions.

Child X- Assaulted, with holding lifesaving medication, disclosing his medical information to 12-16 people, discriminated against  mandated reporters ignoring the out cry from a child and ignoring the worry child X has about the safety of Child Z

Adult X- Harassed, threatened, 

Who should be held accountable? Or are these offense ok?

1: Trusted adult A- a promise is made to keep child X safe. The stand by and watches child X be bullied and harassed. Does not step in or step up but watches. They are also the person Child X trust most to disclose information about what child Z is telling Child X. Which is also ignored… Adult A is a mandated reporter. 

2: Trusted adult B- watches as childX gets physically assaulted over and over, never saying anything. No reporting or telling parents. Even laughing over the fact a child is being hurt

3: Adult in charge A- Ignores child X and parent about assaults, bullying and harassment child X is going through, in a zero tolerance place. 

4: Adult in charge B- Emotionally abuses child X, verbally abuses child X and other children, humiliates child X and other children. verbally abuses adult X. 

5: Adult in charge C- withhold life saving medication in time of need from child X, discloses and mocks child X for medical condition, disregards child X mental health  

6: Overseer of all- Is informed by parent X and child X of the abuse, also mandated reporter. Chooses to harass parent X, remark about a special needs child in a negative way, discriminate child X for coming forward. Disclosed private information to friends and other people which is covered under whistle blower status.

7: The governing body of all- choose to brush all of this under the rug as to not get their hands dirty, pass the buck. The rule and bylaw writers, the persons that make sure that 1-6 are keeping all safe and are following the rules 

This is not ok. In any situation these people would be reprimanded, possibly loose their positions. However in this situation because of the corruption child abuse is swept under the rug, victims are punished and offenders are even promoted and rewarded. 

Take a stand and say this is not ok…… just because it’s a youth sport these offense should not be over looked. 

Mental health is important, let’s not break children and try to put them back together. Kids are loosing their lives at a higher rate, especially in youth sports because things like this are tolerated. Having a 12 year old say he wants to kill himself because of what is happening to them, or because the way an adult is making them feel or doing or not doing. IS NOT OK………. STOP PRETENDING IT’S NOT HAPPENING…. OUR CHILDREN MATTER.
