Dear all,
First of all thank you so much for joining us in this endeavour!
I’ve been in conversations with Councillor Peter Allen and the plans regarding this issue are the following:
- To attend the full Council meeting on the 3rd of September. It’s a formal agenda and time is normally set aside at the beginning of the meeting for the presentation of petitions. There is no opportunity for a presentation or even a short explanation of what this is about, effectively only a repetition of the wording of the petition. Sometimes a councillor presents the petition, but it is more powerful if it comes from residents. A senior Council officer will then respond to the petition in writing after the meeting
Crucially, if there are more than 2,500 signatures on a petition this can trigger a full debate in Council.
Although this number is a very high bar, I’m convinced we can reach it if we work together.
If every one can find 5 other people to sign the petition, we will be closer to our goal.
Let’s make Jesmond a better place to live for everyone!
