I am writing this petition because i want to plead with the government and the president of Ireland to get rid of these dangerous drugs! They cause more harm than good and they cause so many deaths by suicide. They are supposed to treat depression and anxiety but they don't, they actually cause it! For years there has been this chemical myth surrounding depression and anxiety that they are both caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and a lack of serotonin. There is no substantial evidence to support these myths. The serotonin myth has actually been proven to be totally backwards. Depression and anxiety are a result of something physically wrong with the body such as nutritional deficiencies and bad gut health. Our gut is strongly connected to our brain. That's why it is known as the second brain, 90% of the serotonin we produce in our bodies is actually made in our gut. Depression & anxiety is also caused by emotional problems i:e Life experiences, trauma, bullying etc. Cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness have been proven to be very effective for treating depression and anxiety. I also want spread awareness to anyone who is currently on these drugs who is still in the dark or anyone who is considering taking them. I did my own research and have recently learned the dark and hidden truths about antidepressants, other psychotropic drugs such as benzodiazepines, codeine and fentanyl and the pharmaceutical companies. They have lied to us and to the doctors about them for years! They deliberately published the trials that show they did work and hid any trials that suggested they didn't work. See here: https://www.madinamerica.com/2017/04/united-nations-statement-criticizes-medicalization-depression-world-health-day/
They have been proven to work no better than a sugar pill! The disadvantages in the trials outweighed any small potential benefits. They have more side affects than we are told about! They blunt emotions and they cause many adverse reactions. They alter the chemical activity of the brain and affect the central nervous system. They are dangerous and a nightmare to withdraw from and doctors are not trained on how to properly and safely wean their patients off the medication. They are taught to wean their patients in too big and too fast of a taper. Example (100mg-75mg-50mg-25mg-0) Patients should be tapering at no more than a 5% decrease every 2 to 4 weeks and some may have to taper even lower and hold for longer depending on how sensitive their nervous system is. The reason for this very slow taper is to give the brain and body a chance to adjust the chemical changes that are taking place & to reduce the chances of experiencing withdrawal symptoms. When patients are tapered off too quickly such as the doctors method they experience withdrawal symptoms which is mistaken for their original problem that caused them to go on antidepressants in the first place. The patients then are told to go back on the medication because the doctors tell them that their depression or anxiety has come back when in fact it is withdrawal symptoms that they are experiencing. Most doctors are totally unaware of this. Another thing that is very wrong is that patients are not given informed consent before being prescribed the drugs. A very serious & dangerous condition that is caused by these drugs is Serotonin Syndrome. If a person develops Serotonin Syndrome then unfortunately the drug that is responsible must be stopped abruptly which will most likely send the person into severe withdrawal which is very traumatizing & frightening for the person.
One woman has been screaming out to people about these drugs for many years! Her name is Ann Blake Tracy. Ann Blake-Tracy, serves as the executive director of the International Coalition for Drug Awareness. She has specialized for 27
years in adverse reactions to serotonergic medications (such as Prozac, Sarafem,
Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor, Serzone, Remeron, Anafranil,
Fen-Phen, Redux and Meridia as well as the new atypical antipsychotics Zyprexa,
Geodon, Seroquel and Abilify), as well as pain killers, and has testified
before the FDA and congressional subcommittee members on antidepressants. Since 1992 she has testified as an expert witness in Prozac and other SSRI related court cases around the world. Her first book on the issue was published in 1991 & updated in 2014. What scientists are just now learning about these drugs she spelled out in this book and other early writings.

If you are on facebook there are several support groups for various SSRI's. Here is a list of them.
