Thank you for being one of 6000 people from over 70 countries to sign our petition calling on Newcastle University to end unnecessary redundancies.
We are inviting all supporters who live in easy travelling distance to join us in Newcastle for a national rally to add further up pressure on management as they aim to push through job cuts.
In protest against the continuing threat to jobs, research and teaching at Newcastle University, the University and College Union (UCU) is calling a national demonstration in Newcastle next Wednesday, June 11. Union members and allies from across the country will unite to oppose these unnecessary redundancies. Supporters of the petition are warmly invited to join the demonstration; local signatories will be aware of the damage these cuts threaten to the culture and economy of the city.
Newcastle UCU branch chair Matt Perry said: “There will be delegations from up and down the country. Many universities are facing job cuts. Newcastle is on the frontline in terms of the amount of strike action we have taken and resistance we have put up. The whole of higher education is looking at Newcastle and what happens here.”
The demonstration will assemble at Newcastle Civic Centre at 12:30 before marching to Monument for a rally at 2. Please join us to show your support.
