Tuesday November 23, 2021. On the day before the WSJ annually publishes its “Desolate Wilderness” Thanksgiving eve editorial they have written about our Change.org petition on their editorial page.  Fifty thousand signatures and a box of sacred corn were apparently something they felt they could not ignore. While they proclaim their intention of publishing their insulting editorial tomorrow, they include extensive passages from our petition in their commentary and acknowledge that “the petition makes a historical point, which is fair enough” before dismissing the overall point as a “misread”. They accuse us of “censoring the Pilgrims”, which would be hard to do without a time machine. And then they claim that the point of our petition “isn’t to promote debate but to shut it down”. The WSJ is consistent in its disregard for the truth. On October 6 I wrote to them as follows: “On behalf of indigenous people across the nation and on behalf of enlightened supporters far and wide, I request an audience with you to discuss how you might gracefully end this practice…”. The WSJ has not responded to my request. I would like to, as they imply, “debate the issue” publicly as historical facts are on our side. FOX News and many other conservative and right wing news services picked up on today’s WSJ editorial and echoed it. They are giving us visibility. We are about to announce the winners of our “Thanksgiving (Re)Writing Contest.” It is a Thanksgiving feast for the eyes and ears. Stay tuned for more news. And Migwech (thank you) for your part in this development.
