End the violence against Amhara civilians in East Wollega
End the violence against Amhara civilians in East Wollega
The Issue
Since early August 2026, my heart has been heavy with the tragedies unfolding in East Wollega and its surrounding areas. Over 100 Amhara civilians, people from my own community, have lost their lives. These were families, friends, and neighbors brutally uprooted from their homes and their familiar lives through waves of violence. Thousands more are now refugees in their own homeland, displaced from safety and security.
The atrocities plaguing these communities are unthinkable. House-to-house killings have shattered the peace that once existed. Families are being driven out by fear and aggression, with entire villages being set alight. Sacred churches, places meant for worship and solace, have been attacked, and clergy who seek only to guide and comfort have become targets. During these devastating times, looting and torture become everyday occurrences, shattering the fabric of society.
While the news of these events hasn't reached every corner of the world, the scars left on our communities are visible to all who look. This is not just violence; it is an assault on human dignity. It is an assault on the cultural and spiritual identity of the Amhara people.
We must act swiftly and decisively. I call upon the local and international community to intervene. Humanitarian organizations and governmental institutions must coordinate efforts to provide immediate relief to those displaced. We urge the Ethiopian government to assure the safety and security of its citizens by deploying peacekeepers and stopping these brutal acts.
Furthermore, it is crucial that we demand justice for the victims. An independent inquiry must be launched to investigate these heinous crimes, bringing those responsible to justice. We must hold those accountable in order to restore peace and prevent further violence.
Join me in standing up for human rights and dignity. Stand with me in solidarity with the Amhara people. We cannot be silent while communities are ravaged by violence and despair. We have the power to create change through awareness and action.
Please, sign this petition to demand an end to the violence in East Wollega, and to save our brothers and sisters from this ongoing terror. Together, we can bring about lasting peace and justice.
