We now have over 700 signatures and are well on our way to our initial goal of 1000! We feel it is warranted to provide our plan of action on how we are proceeding with this petition:
The petition will be shared with the student senate, who can speak at the Board of Visitors meetings. If there is sufficient support in the senate (which we suspect there will be, but inform your friends!), a referendum or other on-paper resolution could be presented to the board of visitors. If the BoV respects the opinions and privacy of those they are chosen to represent, they will cancel the contract or direct the VTPD to do so.
There are no student senators in our organization so this is the best we can understand the process. That said, take it with a pinch of salt. This petition is not our only course of action, however it is our most public facing at this time.
