As an animal lover and a strong advocate for their rights, I am deeply saddened and outraged by the recent event where a lion was tragically shot and killed in Türkiye. This incident is not an isolated one, and it serves as a chilling reminder of the rampant problem of animal cruelty and abuse in our society. Although Türkiye has laws protecting animal rights, enforcement is often loose and cases of animal cruelty are far too frequent. Studies suggest approximately 1 million animals are subject to abuse each year in our country alone (National Animal Rights Federation, Türkiye). This is a testament to the systemic problem that needs immediate attention.

Animals are not objects but living, breathing beings with emotions and the ability to feel pain, just like humans. We need to prioritize their rights and ensure they live free from abuse and violence. It is important for policy to reflect our empathy and kindness with stronger laws and stricter enforcement against animal abuse.
