I wanted to share a really encouraging update with everyone who has supported this petition.

After multiple respectful and productive conversations, I met today with Sheriff Andy Rohrich, and I’m genuinely grateful for the time, openness, and thoughtfulness he brought to the discussion. The Sheriff was engaged, willing to listen, and clearly committed to continually improving how the Sheriff’s Office serves the Chaffee County community.

We reviewed best practices and policies from news organizations like the Associated Press, as well as approaches used by other law enforcement agencies. I’m very pleased to share that the Sheriff agrees with the concerns raised and has committed to updating the department’s social media policy. Moving forward, mug shots will no longer be reposted in arrest follow-ups and will not be posted at the time of arrest unless there is a clear public safety concern.

This is a meaningful and thoughtful change, and I’m proud to live in a community with leadership that is willing to listen, evolve, and take steps that balance public safety with fairness and long term impact on people’s lives.

I also want to sincerely thank everyone who signed and shared this petition. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure an online petition would lead to real change but it did. This will have a positive impact on people’s ability to move forward, recover, and rebuild their lives without a single moment following them forever online.

Thank you again for engaging respectfully and helping make this improvement possible.
