According to the South African Police Service's crime statistics, there were over 42,000 cases of reported rape in the 2019/2020 period alone. These numbers, as horrifying as they are, only represent a fraction of the problem. Countless incidents go unreported due to fear, stigma, and mistrust in the authorities.
We call upon the South African government and law enforcement agencies to take decisive and immediate action against these atrocities. The focus should be on implementing stricter laws and ensuring the swift prosecution of offenders.
