James Kenton Calls Out Defamatory Statements in New Lawsuit Filed Against the State of Tennessee
Kenton has demanded compensatory and punitive damages to the tune of $100M.
Mt. Juliet, TN – To be dated: Defamation is the first charge mentioned in James Kenton vs The State of Tennessee, a lawsuit filed by the same-name roofing contractor, who was subjected to several civil and constitutional rights violations before the fraud case against him was dismissed.
The lawsuit precedes the recent breaking news of the state investigating the Nashville District Attorney for misuse of office resources, among other things. Kenton’s corruption case levels several charges against the Assistant District Attorney at the same office, Chadwick Jackson, and Detective William Decker Thorogood, ranging from defamation to false imprisonment.
“The criminal case against me was a joke with very real consequences,” said Kenton when asked about the defamation charge. “They mass-communicated uncorroborated information regarding me and my roofing work, which is still out there, and subjected me to an infinite amount of anguish. There’s your answer to why I’m seeking damages worth $100M. The damage they caused continues to harm me daily, and there’s no saying when it’ll stop. They knew what they were doing, and I will not let them get away with it.”
Kenton’s lawsuit accuses the defendants of “actual malice,” meaning they went ahead with the libel and slander intentionally and without a care for how it would affect Kenton. The defamation charge is one of ten charges against the state, including torturous interference with business relationships, false light invasion of property, negligent hiring, prima facie tort, negligence, gross negligence, emotional distress, and malicious prosecution.
The last false arrest imprisonment charge doesn’t bode well for Detective Thorogood, who has a history of disciplinary actions and recently came under fire for a leaked video in which he is seen assaulting a man in front of his child after mistaking him for littering.
