I’m thrilled to share incredible news with everyone who signed this petition. We printed over 10,000 signatures and sent them to Shitennoji Temple via registered mail, and now they’ve sent a written statement committing to permanently end monkey performances on its grounds, effective immediately.
We want to thank Shiitenoji Temple for their prompt and positive response to our concerns. They have demonstrated a commitment to animal welfare that will be a good precedent for others to follow suit. Although Shiitenoji has agreed to stop, there are still many temples and venues hosting monkey performances across Japan. Next in our campaign, we will be asking the nearby Sumiyoshi Tashia to consider ending their performances as well. Special thanks to ItadakiHealthy, Mui Wildlife, PETA Japan, PEACE.

このたび署名してくださった皆様に、素晴らしいご報告があります。皆様からいただいた10,000筆を超える署名を印刷し、書留郵便にて四天王寺へお送りしたところ、このたび境内での猿まわし公演を即時かつ恒久的に終了することを約束する文書をいただきました。
このたびの迅速かつ前向きなご対応に、四天王寺様に心より感謝申し上げます。今回の対応は動物福祉への真摯な姿勢を示すものであり、他の寺院や施設にとっても良い前例となることでしょう。四天王寺は公演の中止に同意してくださいましたが、日本国内には依然として猿まわしを行っている寺院や施設が数多く存在します。今後のキャンペーンでは、近隣の住吉大社にも公演終了をご検討いただけるよう、働きかけを行っていく予定です。
