The #DeeperThanWater Coalition is holding a protest THIS SATURDAY, JAN 6th, at 2pm at the State House in Boston. Join us to protest medical neglect in MA prisons and call for accountability and transparency.

- WHY: Medical neglect has been a major problem in MA prisons for years. Despite increased attention on this issue (thanks to you and others who signed our petition!), the MA Department of Correction (DOC) has done nothing to stop the neglect. We gather to call on Governor Healey and the DOC to incorporate basic mechanisms of accountability and transparency into the new medical provider contract.
Why now? In Nov, the DOC released a Request for Responses (RFR) soliciting bids for a new contract with a medical provider to MA State Prisons. Over the past year, we worked with people incarcerated in MA to develop demands for change in the language of the upcoming RFR. We shared these demands directly with the team writing the RFR on multiple occasions; however, none of our demands were incorporated into the RFR.
The DOC has the ability to easily amend the RFR until January 17th. With enough public pressure, they may still make the changes outlined in our demands. Thanks to you, nearly 500 people have called on the DOC and Governor Healey to make these changes.
