The Issue

Vulnerable communities, such as immigrants and victims of domestic abuse, bear the brunt of the current mandate that requires Social Security Numbers (SSNs) for federal programs. In an effort to preserve their safety and maintain some level of anonymity, these individuals often live, work, and study outside mainstream systems and are, thus, unable to access vital services.

Securing necessities like medical, dental, and social aid programs is impossible for many, as they fall through the regulatory cracks due to lack of an SSN. In fact, countless people are unable to find employment or pursue education because of this singular stipulation. The road to better lives and access to essential medication is effectively blocked by this one requirement, causing undue hardship to those who need help the most. Abusers often misuse these systems to manipulate or even track their victims, leading to tragic outcomes.

It's estimated that similarly draconian SSN requirements have affected millions in the United States (Consumer Reports, 2019). It's essential to remember that an SSN should not be a gateway to basic human rights such as health, education, and safety.

I urge you to sign this petition to end the mandatory requirement of Social Security Numbers for federal programs. Help us bring a change that ensures fairness and universal access to these programs, regardless of one's ability to procure an SSN. Your support can transform lives and build a better society. Your signature makes you a part of the solution. Let's stand together for change, sign the petition now.
