Finally, the nation is waking up and beginning to take notice! New Mexico has taken the lead by outlawing lunch shaming, now the USDA has put together its own guidance regarding the matter. Soon, schools will have to publicly disclose exactly what actions they will take when a student cannot pay for a meal; schools that practice lunch shaming will be forced to disclose that fact. The next few months are bound to be interesting. Wherever you are, I recommend that you either support or start a social media page addressing lunch shaming policies within your state.
