The BEST school charge policy I've seen to date . . . Amarillo Independent School District!

The latest events regarding this petition have been my letter mailed to Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, to which I have yet to receive a reply and a telephone interview with a local newspaper, the Copperas Cove Leader-Press, that story should run in the Tuesday April 19th edition. I hope the news story generates additional Texas signatures, the Texas signature count currently sits in the 11,000 signature range; although this is a Texas-based initiative California had logged more than 15,000 signatures. Nationwide signatures will be important should this petition go national but when the Texas legislature returns in January 2017 they will be much more concerned with the Texas-based signatures at this point. While searching the Internet to find out how much local school districts were paying annually to cover the cost of unpaid meals I discover a article about Commissioner Miller visiting Tradewinds Elementary school in Texas' Amarillo Independent School district, so, I decided to check out their charge policy. I especially love the bold bullet comment "Every attempt will be made by food service staff not to embarrass the student." EVERY Texas school district needs to adopt a similar policy! The only thing that I would change in the policy would be to have the automatic phone calls to parents/guardians begin when the meal account balance reached $5.00, not $0.
