Today, the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) argued in the Bronx Supreme Court on behalf of their Elephant client Happy's fundamental rights.

The historic habeas corpus petition—the first time for an elephant—would grant Happy legal personhood with the basic right to liberty. This legal victory would override the Bronx Zoo's "ownership" of Happy and finally grant her the freedom to live with other elephants for the first time in 13 years at a sanctuary.

The NhRP's delivered hours of arguments today, but the legal battle is just beginning.

And as the Bronx Zoo gets ready to lock Happy away in a cement "elephant barn" for the winter. More than 1.1 million global animal lovers can ensure the lack of public visibility does not mean a lack of public pressure by keeping up the momentum until the next court date in January.
