Hi!
My name’s Will and I’m a gambling addict. On the 18th December 2022, I’ll have not gambled for a total of 1,000 days (ironically the day of the 2022 World Cup final – ironic because in the past that’s a gambling opportunity I could not have passed up) That’s 86,400,000 seconds I’ve not placed a bet – as a gambling addict and former *ahem* accountant, numbers interest me.
I managed, God only knows how, to gamble for over 12 years (that’s 378,432,000 seconds for anyone still interested). At one spin a minute (sometimes even quicker online), that’s over 6 million spins of the roulette wheel - I don’t know why but I feel I managed more than that! Over 4,380 days immersed in my own world of spins, betting, stress, suicidal ideation, arguments, lies, anger, debt, lack of sleep, drinking.
YES, GAMBLING ADDICTION ISN’T FUN. AND IT TAKES EVERYTHING TO STOP.
Earlier this year I released an account of my addiction, ‘A House in the Countryside’. It’s a book I wrote to help others who may be struggling with a gambling addiction and finding it hard to connect. To spread hope to those who only see darkness. I also hope it can help those affected by another person’s gambling understand more about the addiction. If you think it could help you or anyone else, you can find copies at the following websites.
