Yesterday was World Egg Day! The perfect opportunity to stand up for the wonderful animals that produce the eggs that stock the shelves up and down the country. Considering what they contribute to society, I think it should go without saying that the hens kept for the eggs they lay should not be confined to cramped and restrictive cages. I cannot emphasise enough what complex, intelligent, and beautiful animals they really are. They couldn't be more dissimilar to the egg laying machines they are treated as when kept in these inadequate cages. I have 6 rescue hens, and every one of them has their own individual personality. They can be just as friendly as any other household pet, and they really do make me smile every day! The petition is going very well at the moment, with nearly 85,000 signatures already! It is so important that as many people as possible see the petition and are made aware of the issue. If you agree that hens should be given a life where they can move around freely, display natural behaviour, and experience the real outside world, please share the petition with as many people as you possibly can. The campaign Facebook page is End Caged Hen Farming in the UK and the twitter is @LucyGavaghan . Please follow/like the pages and use the hashtag #NoMoreCages Once again, thank you all for you amazing ongoing support! Have a great weekend! Lucy
