The Issue

My personal experience with the violence in Nigeria is heart-shattering; my uncle was brutally murdered by an underage herdsman who was fully armed with sophisticated weapons. This trauma is unfortunately not unique to my family. Every year, thousands of innocent Nigerians suffer similarly, losing loved ones to violent herdsmen and governmental negligence.

Current data reveals an alarming escalation of violence, particularly in Northern Nigeria. In 2018 alone, the nation lost about 2,140 lives to violent herdsmen conflicts, surpassing the dreaded Boko Haram death toll at the time. This constitutes severe infringement of citizens' rights to life and security, making it urgent for core intervention.

Poor governance, corruption, and weak justice systems worsen this issue by granting impunity to culprits and failing to deliver the necessary security reforms. Nigeria ranks 149th out of 180 countries on Transparency International's 2020 Corruption Perception Index, depicting a damaged image of governance in dire need of restructuring.

We are petitioning for immediate government action to eradicate violence and improve governance in Nigeria through effective security transformation, intense crackdown on illegal possession of firearms and a robust fight against corruption at all governmental levels. Each signature on this petition is a voice against violence and poor governance, a voice that demands justice for my uncle and the countless victims whose lives were unjustly cut short. Sign the Petition; join us in demanding change for Nigeria.
