Over the globe, 1.2 million puppies are born every day. That’s roughly the population of Prague, Milan, or Munich. And in just six years, one unneutered male and his offspring can produce 67,000 puppies!
In Saranda, Albania, the abuse of puppies — the most vulnerable and dependent among us — is a particular problem right now. Two local groups of animal advocates and volunteers — Dogs and Cats of Saranda, Albania, and Saranda Dog Services — run active programs in support of the city’s street dogs: feeding them, arranging for spay/neuter and veterinary care, treating them for parasites.
But a few committed volunteers — stretched for time, energy, money, and other resources — can only accomplish so much.
Saranda’s leaders have yet to step up to partner with these volunteers to address animal abuse and find solutions.
