It's been one week since I published this petition and we are so close to getting 200 signatures. Wow! I am so thrilled to have so many engaged and passionate members in this local that have signed and shared this within their own professional networks. Thank you for your support and advocating for transparency from our leadership!!
I have some news. Last Thursday, I got a call from Scott George.
It was a short but respectful conversation regarding this petition. However, he did not commit to holding a town hall for us rank and file members before our delegates fly out to Hawaii on July 25th. I am disappointed but not surprised by this response. It is not too late to hold this town hall. I will not stop talking with leadership about this issue, especially since out own guild staff have this to say about the Quadrennial Convention in the latest issue of Cinemontage:
"Every four years, delegates from more than 360 IATSE locals gather to shape the future of their union. This year’s IATSE Convention—the union’s highest governing body—will take place July 28 to August 1, 2025, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, with events and sessions scheduled at the Sheraton Waikiki and nearby venues. This convention will help set the course for the union’s direction, priorities, and leadership for the next four years.
'The new four years begin right here,' said Alan Heim, ACE, President of the Motion Picture Editors Guild. 'Our convention sets the priorities, elects the leaders, and builds the momentum to make real gains for each and every IATSE member.'"
I will let our staff's writing speak for itself.
Look out for more updates from myself in the coming days. There's more work to be done.
In Solidarity,
Juniper Jensen
