Pending Legal Action

The City of Lawrenceville has now received a NOTICE OF INTENT TO PURSUE LEGAL ACTION from the Illinois EPA over violations tied to the city’s Public Water Supply.

This is not routine correspondence. This is a serious escalation.

When a regulatory agency moves from identifying violations to signaling legal enforcement, it means the situation has advanced beyond warnings and into potential consequences for the city and its taxpayers.

For months, many of us have raised concerns about leadership, oversight, and accountability within our utilities department. Those concerns were often dismissed. But now the state itself is taking stronger action.

The mayor has the authority to act. He should remove Aaron Tipsword from his position immediately and begin the process of bringing in qualified leadership focused on compliance, competence, and restoring public trust.

This is no longer about politics. It is about protecting our community, our water system, and the financial future of Lawrenceville.

When leadership problems are ignored too long, outside agencies step in. That appears to be where we are now.
