The 11 April marked two years since political prisoner Julian Assange was first jailed in Belmarsh maximum security prison in London for his work as a publisher. Despite Magistrates Court ruling at the start of this year that his extradition would be oppressive and must be halted, Assange continues to be denied bail and remains in detention. He has been unable to receive any visitors for more than a year, including his fiancee and two young children.

Marking this day vigils were held last weekend globally from Washington DC, New York City, London, Berlin to Sydney.

WikiLeaks spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson said: "It’s long past time for this injustice to end and we continue to appeal to the United States and the Department of Justice to drop the appeal and all the charges against Julian. This gross injustice must come to an end.”

Julian Assange's partner Stella Moris also posted an update on the defence fundraiser asking people to "join protests and solidarity actions where you are, and share information,... to educate, nurture compassion and solidarity, and bring like-minded people onboard."

To mark this week we have created a helpful phone script for you so you call at least one of your local representatives and demand they speak up about Julian Assange’s case which has profoundly dangerous implications not only for Assange but also for the freedom of expression and the press.

We encourage you to create your own message, this is just a handy template. Record yourself and upload your call as this will encourage others to do likewise – the campaign will promote the best recordings.

On Sunday bold new projections around London (Old Bailey, Oxford Street, Westminster) - drew attention to second anniversary of WikiLeaks
founder Julian Assange's detention in Belmarsh prison.
