Terrorist attack and legion of honour: double standards?

Thiaba BRUNIParis, France
29 Sept 2015
Three days after Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos, Anthony Sandler and Chris Norman heroically stopped a terrorist, Ayoub El-Khazzani, from committing an attack on a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris, they received a Legion of Honour from the French President, François Hollande. On the other hand, eight months after saving the lives of fifteen people, Lassana Bathily still has not received his Legion of Honour. Has Lassana Bathily not been as deserving as the heroes of the Thalys train? What justifies this double standard? Is a Malian hero worth less than an American hero? In my eyes Lassana Bathily is the victim of discrimination and this must come to an end. I am relaunching the campaign I started on January 8 2015 calling for a Legion of Honour for Lassana Bathily. I am asking Hollande to stop an injustice that has gone on too long.
