Dear Petitioner

Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about eliminating single-use plastic bags in London.

Thank you for including the Mayor on the circulation of your petition. The Mayor is pleased to see Londoners campaigning for environmental issues and that you share his passion to reduce single-use plastics in London.

Whilst the Mayor found your initiative very interesting, and commends your motivation and endeavour, he is not able to support a commercial venture and so is unable to respond to the petition as you have requested.

However, as you may be aware, the Mayor is taking action against single-use plastics where he is able to. He has recently published the London Environment Strategy, which sets out his long-term plan to help the environment. This plan includes increasing recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste in London, with a focus on reducing single-use plastics.

To deliver this, the Mayor has piloted five water refill areas to help tackle single-use plastic bottles. He is also working with the #OneLess campaign, led by the Zoological Society London and now with Thames Water, to install drinking fountains across London to further this work. He has also removed single-use plastics from the City Hall café and staff areas and is working with the Greater London Authority Group to phase out single-use plastics elsewhere.

We wish you all the best in your work to reduce single-use plastic bags.

Yours sincerely
